The STEM Academy is a program focused on building a lab school setting with mentorship, applied professional learning, and the ability to earn graduate credit while offering a summer education program for area students.
Teachers will participate in meaningful STEM/21st Century professional learning, modeling, guided practice, application, ongoing reflection, coaching, and mentoring. Teachers participating in the full three week program will be able to pilot their units with students. Teachers participating in smaller portions of the program will receive credit towards the STEM theory and philosophy courses. Teachers learning at the STEM Academy will leave with the progressive mindset, strategies, and experiences necessary to carry out innovative education that prepares students for their future.
STEM Academy students are enrolled in a credit bearing program geared towards reducing summer regression by providing an engaging environment with holistic applied curriculum. These students also work with teachers to build and test units. Students attending the STEM Academy will leave with the competencies and mindset to choose STEM careers.
The overarching goal of STEM Academy is to increase the quality and quantity of highly-trained integrated STEM teachers in the Fargo-Moorhead area and beyond. The STEM Academy engages and empowers teachers, leaders, and students in an ongoing and meaningful process of educational innovation. The focus of STEM Academy experiences is the use of the engineering design process, (EDP) the infusion of 21st Century Skills to solve real-world problems, and creating empowered teachers leaders capable of deliver 21st century content. Teachers learning at the STEM Academy will leave with the progressive mindset, strategies, and experiences necessary to carry out innovative education that prepares students for their future.
